My Brit Lit/US Gov teacher always shows us this. I thought it was apropos, seeing all the posts rejoicing in a man’s death. I believe even terrible men have a right to life, and celebrating a murder leads one down a dark and fatal path to hatred and fear. War is not the answer, war was never the answer, and war will never be the answer. How can we, claiming liberty and freedom, pass the torch of democracy with weapons of combat? Yes, we’ve stopped a man whose heinous crimes and ideas have spread evil amongst our brothers. Yes, we’ve dented the hierarchy of a radical and dangerous political movement. But for every man we kill, we make a thousand new enemies. And those enemies want us dead. We are afraid, paranoid of terrorist attacks across the country, but must we be reduced to dogs who bite back after being bitten? Will the death of this one man cause these feared strikes against our country? Should we really be happy that one of our enemies has perished?
